in the united states senate. so a friend of mine -- a friend of his told me yesterday that barney's active lobbying for the job may have hurt him. >> oh, that was clearly the first of the reasons. i don't know behind the scenes he may have given a tongue lashing to the governor behind closed doors. >> bill: right. is cowen saying that -- it's clear he is not going to run, right? >> that was one of the prerequisites that the governor laid down on the job, and cowen is very loyal to him. >> bill: so we know ed marky at least at this point is in. what is scott brown going to do? governor or senator? >> well there's scott brown and then really nobody else. >> bill: yeah. >> he's weighing his options. he has been around talking in the private sector see what he could get in terms of salary and deals. he has been through two very tough campaigns in the last several years. he faces another tough campaign here, and when he finishes this campaign in june he has to roll into 2014 where they are going to try to go at him again if he were to win for a full term. that's when kerry's t

of the great committees of the united states senate and it's the only major committee that i have served on since day one when i arrived in the senate in 1985. as you know, the committee carries special consequential responsibility with respect to the security of our nation and i think each and every one of you, for the serious considering that you give and have given to the challenges issues and for the remarkable cooperation that i have had as chairman of the committee, if confirmed, i look forward to continuing to work particularly closely with all of you. as we tackle some of the toughest issues and challenges that i have seen in the entire time i've served on this committee. and i particularly welcome the new members in that regard. i'm very grateful to president obama for nominating me and entrusting me with this important responsibility and i am particularly grateful to secretary clinton, senator mccain, and senator warren for their introductions of me just now. i will not take it personally that this may be the one item in washington that seems to unite democrats and republicans

to know him. as well as the united states senate. he is on the farm bills and authored most of the authorization bills. clearly his decision is personal i'm sure. he is frustrated with washington, d.c. and members of both parties are frustrated with the gridlock. the republicans will nominate somebody in main street, but while georgia is the so-called red state, president obama was able to get more than 45% of the vote there. i assume that we are going have a credible democrat who will seek the party's nomination. >> it's interesting that the conservative was afraid that even more conservative republicans may challenge him and he decided time to move on. let's move on ourselves. jeb bush the former florida governor cowrote a piece of the "wall street journal" calling for comprehensive immigration reform among other things, writing this. some tell us makers are calling for piece meal changes such as issuing visas or conferring legal status of immigrants who were brought in as children. congress should avoid such quick ficks and commit itself instead to comprehensive immigrati

respect the prerogatives of the united states senate and the members of congress, you represent the american people, you're the other branch of government, you have the right to know what took place. and i have an obligation commensurate with the, you know, regulations and classifications and privacy and other things at play here, to help you get the answers and we'll do that. i hope we can do it in a noncontentious, appropriate way. >> thank you. could i just mention, i think you would aee with me that every day that goes by in syria, it gets worse. so there is, it seems to me, a very strong impetus that we realize that the present policy is not succeeding and to look at other options to prevent what is going on for now 22 months and 60,000 dead. >> but i think you would agree with me that whatever judgments you make, they have to pass the test of whether or not, you do them, they're actually going to make things better. >> absolutely. >> you have to make a test of the cost analysis in doing that. and i mean all kinds of cos. human life costs, treasure, effect on other countrie

of almost every politician i know of in the united states senate and congress who when he authored the iranian freedom and security act. he authored the syria accountability act. now, those were not just since the things have percolated in the arab spring, those were well in advance. he knows more about the interactions between ahmadinejad and chavez than i think every politician. so in terms of who our enemy is, where's the war being fought, you know, he was the first one who used the term at the press club in washington, d.c., our enemy is islamofascism. george bush used that term, and then karen hughes said you can't use that term because it might alienate the muslim community. just like in christianity, we have people who handle snakes and speak in tongues and people who might show up on easter and christmas. of that whole realm also spans in islam. i was at a table with -- [inaudible] when he received the reward from a foundation in l.a. which i understand is kind of the largest representative of the jewish community. it was for his holding a conference in indonesia that broug
